Stalos, Chania: A small but quality resort in northern Crete near Chania city

Achilles Plaza hotel is located in Stalos, Chania. Stalos is a small village in northern Crete in a distance of about 7 kilometers west of Chania city. The village essentially consists of two settlements, Kato Stalos and Ano Stalos.

Katos Stalos, Chania, or Lower Stalos in English, is a coastal settlement. The beach of Kato Stalos is big, organized and has crystal clear water. Most visitors in the area of Chania, Crete, only visit Kato Stalos, because of its marvelous beach. However, there are many beautiful places to see in Ano Stalos, too.

Ano Stalos, Chania, or Upper Stalos in English, is located on top of a characteristic hill south of the beach. Ano Stalos was the only settlement that was inhabited in earlier centuries, when piracy and enemy attacks were a constant threat for the coastal settlements, making it necessary for the residents to live on hills in the inland.

In Ano Stalos you will find some of the best taverns in Chania area. The settlement also offers magnificent view to the sea. Between Ano Stalos and Kato Stalos you will find a characteristic landscape of northwestern Crete: the olive groves and the vineyards among the trees and the rich vegetation of the area.

The location of Stalos, between Chania city and the renowned resorts of Agia Marina and Platanias, could not be better. Stalos provides easy and immediate access to all of these areas, yet at the same time it is ideal for more tranquil holidays, if you want to avoid the crowds.

In order to get around Stalos, you don’t necessarily have to rent a car: you can use the local buses (KTEL of Crete) which have a very good network and frequent routes. In the night, you can use a taxi without spending much money, as the distances to Chania city, Agia Marina, and Platanias are all short.

The neighboring villages of Agia Marina and Platanias are renowned for their nightlife, and accordingly Stalos is renowned for its taverns. In both Kato Stalos and Ano Stalos you can find very good taverns to taste the local cuisine in its best!

The beautiful, big beach of Stalos, Chania, Crete

The big, organized beach of Kato Stalos, or Stalos beach, is one of the most picturesque beaches in the north part of Chania region. The blue flag is awarded each and every year to this sandy beach, as is the case with all the special beaches in Crete.

The beach of Stalos, Chania, has crystal clear water and is very comfortable for families. If you like summer activities in the sea, at Stalos beach you will find the opportunity for water sports.

Near Stalos beach, in Kato Stalos settlement you can find everything you might ask for: taverns and fish taverns, restaurants with local and international cuisine, cafés, bars and beach bars, stores of every kind, pharmacies, mini markets, they are all literally next to you.

Stalos, Chania, Crete, may be less renowned than Chania city to the east and the well known resorts to the west, but it is equally beautiful and organized, and capable to offer you nice, trouble-free holidays.
